X-ray Techniques Laboratory (X-TechLab).

X-TechLab is an experimental platform dedicated to the use of X-ray techniques for scientific and technological research on development issues specific to the African continent.

The X-TechLab Ecosystem

Training on the use of X-ray techniques.
Training in X-ray techniques. The aim of X-TechLab's training programs is to equip local and regional scientific communities with the technical skills to use X-ray techniques (scattering, imaging and spectroscopy) as tools for developing solutions to a variety of socio-economic problems.
Implementation of innovative research projects
X-TechLab is based at the Agence de Développement de Sèmè City (ADSC), a flagship project of the Beninese government aimed at creating the International City of Innovation and Knowledge in Benin. Located in the ADSC's 2,500 m² open innovation park, the platform aims to immerse researchers in a dynamic ecosystem, enabling them to interact with a wide range of other players including engineers, industrialists, students, entrepreneurs, craftsmen, etc. Research projects applied to the resolution of specific socio-economic problems are designed and implemented here.
Popularization of science
According to 2019 data from the UNESCO Institute for Statistics, of all regions in the world, sub-Saharan Africa has the highest rates of school exclusion. Nearly 60% of young people aged around 15 and 17 are not in school. Moreover, Benin is one of the countries where the disaffection of young people for scientific studies is growing. The science popularization program designed and implemented by X-TechLab aims to introduce youth scholar, through practical workshops, to crystallography and symmetry in order to prepare them to pursue higher education in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
